Analysis of Aircraft Fuel Burn and Emissions in the Landing and Take Off Cycle using Operational Data
نویسندگان
چکیده
An understanding of aircraft fuel burn and emissions is necessary to evaluate their effects on the environment. In this paper, data from Flight Data Recorders (FDRs) have been used to estimate the operational values of times in mode, fuel flow rates, fuel burn, NOx emission indices, and quantities of emissions produced during the Landing and Take Off (LTO) cycle for 12 aircraft-and-engine combinations. These operational values are statistically compared to those reported in the ICAO Engine Exhaust Emissions Databank. In most cases, the operational values are found to differ from the ICAO databank values in a statistically significant manner. The ICAO databank is found to typically overestimate the values of LTO cycle fuel burn and emissions. The use of FDR archives also enables the characterization of the operational variability in fuel burn and emissions among different instances of the same aircraft-engine combination.

Estimation of Aircraft Taxi-out Fuel Burn using Flight Data Recorder Archives
The taxi-out phase of a flight accounts for a significant fraction of total fuel burn for aircraft. In addition, surface fuel burn is also a major contributor to CO2 emissions in the vicinity of airports. It is therefore desirable to have accurate estimates of fuel consumption on the ground. This paper builds a model for estimation of on-ground fuel consumption of an aircraft, given its surface...

Changing aircraft operational procedures is one strategy that can be used to reduce fuel burn and mitigate environmental impacts of aviation in relatively short timeframes with existing aircraft types. This study quantifies the fuel burn and emissions reduction potential of delayed deceleration approaches, where the aircraft is kept fast and in clean aerodynamic configuration for as long as pos...

Aircraft emissions are a significant source of pollution and are closely related to engine fuel burn. The onboard Flight Data Recorder (FDR) is an accurate source of information as it logs operational aircraft data in situ. The main objective of this paper is the visualization and exploration of data from the FDR. The Airbus A330 223 is used to study the variation of normalized engine performan...
